The benefits of being a Friend of South Street include receiving newsletters throughout the year which will cover topics such as:

- notification of when competition entries open,
- updates on previous competitors “where are they now”,
- information and updates throughout the competitions, interesting news stories,
- notification of special performances, functions and events,
- stay in touch with what is happening at South Street all year round.

RSSS is a performing art support organisation run by volunteers. Its members and friends give generously of their spare time to encourage enjoyment and excellence in the performing arts, and self respect to its students.

We do this by way of competition, festival, concert, publicity, and even guest speakers. We aim to help aspiring Australians from 3 year old to adults. Our most obvious effort is staging the “Grand National Eisteddfod of Australasia” in Ballarat each year. The Society has provided this service for 117 years now (as of 2008), and it is the longest operating competition in Australia, followed by Wollongong at 115 years.
